Wheels on Fire – July 2021

Well, July saw “Freedom Day” which felt rather bonkers considering the rates were spiralling. I’ve also known of more people get COVID this month, than in the last few months.

Although, the closure of the schools for summer has seen the numbers drop, Lincoln are currently top of the list with a rate of 717 infections per 100,000.

The Beautiful Game

Amazingly, England actually got to the Euro Finals, I decided that this was a once in a lifetime event, so splurged and bought a TV licence then I could watch it.

Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be, but I’ve got nothing but admiration for those that had the courage to take the penalties, in particular Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka.

I was horrified to hear that Marcus Rashford’s mural was defaced, but the response from fans leaving tributes to cover up this up was amazing.

The Boys

Pippin is settling in well, and I’m sure he’s doubled in size since he arrived.

I registered him with a different vet practice and took him for his first vaccinations, unfortunately when I asked a few questions, I got the impression that they weren’t particularly rabbit savvy.

So I’ve now registered him at another practice that was recommended by the Rabbit Welfare Association, (trust me finding a practice, that is also accessible and has parking is challenging!).

Even Rupert the African Pygmy Hedgehog, was struggling in the heatwave, lying on the floor of his vivarium, he’s been much happier now its cooler again and has been running on his wheel at night.

We also held our own version of Download (without the mud!):

Other stuff

Another quiet month, I managed to get my nose re-pierced at St Helen’s Body Piercing which was also very accessible. I was looking to find somewhere to park and spotted a traffic warden who was very helpful, advising I could park on double yellow lines for 3 hours as I had a blue badge (why did I not know this?!).

It definitely got too hot for me! I even bought a fan! Let’s hope we don’t get another prolonged heatwave in August.

Anyway, now I’ve got a TV Licence I can watch the Olympics – good luck Team GB.

Take care

  1. Good to hear you survived the heatwave, it’s something we are not really prepared for but appears like to become the new norm. I haven’t forgotten about lunch, just been busy around the house and garden, taking advantage of good weather. Stay safe x
