November 2021

It definitely doesn’t look like COVID will be disappearing, Torridge (which is apparently in Devon – I had to look that up!), are currently in number one position with infections a 905 per 100k.

We’ve also got the new Omicron variant – hopefully in a couple more weeks we’ll know more about this and the risks posed. I’ve seen thoughts that it is highly infectious but causes a mild illness, I hope this is true.

A trip to Aintree Racecourse

Sadly not to see a race, it was for my 3rd Covid vaccination. I asked if they’d be prepared to give me the vaccine in my car, to save having to transfer in/out (my lovely local pharmacy were happy to do this for my flu jab), they said no, but the staff did come and help me by lifting the chair out of the car and reassembling it for me, which makes life a little easier.

Vaccination hub – not having a tipple

There’s also a big equestrian centre at Aintree, and there happened to be a competition on the day I was there. So lots of horse boxes, people wandering around in jods and general horsey hustle and bustle. It felt strange to be on onlooker to a world that was home, but isn’t any longer.

House modifications

Yes – these are still ongoing! Just doing small things as and when. I’ve finally got a window in the bathroom which I can open! So next time there is a heat wave (definitely not applicable to November!), I can open the window and hopefully get a through breeze upstairs.

It’s getting cold

The November wintry weather has definitely arrived, and is very mixed. I managed to get down to the canal on a lovely, sunny and crisp day. It was beautiful, the canal was as still as a mill pond.

Then towards the end of the month we had snow, which always take me by surprise.

Decided to stay indoors that day

Then of course there was Storm Arwen. I can’t believe that a week later there are still hundreds of homes without electricity in this day an age.

The thought of a prolonged power cut terrifies me, as I’m reliant on the stair lift (bathroom upstairs), Rupert also needs to be kept above 20c and I don’t have a gas cooker either.

Stay safe
